Step one: This Initial Contact

This is really the first impression, so you want to make it a good one. Begin to engage the
prospect in friendly discussions about their likes and hobbies. At this initial contact, it is
not about aggressively making the sale. Nobody wants an aggressive salesman in their face
trying to sell them something just to make money. For canvassing to work, you need to first
establish a relationship with the prospect. Show them you are interested in them and that
you care about them, not just about selling to them. The most important components of
your contact are your smile, attire, posture, eye contact and willingness to listen. You want
to convert the prospect from a stranger to a friend, because people like to do business with
people they like.

If you go looking for a friend, you're going to find they're very scarce. If you go out
to be a friend, you'll find them everywhere.
